Cargo handling and packing policies

Packing

  • The client is responsible for packing safely and protecting their merchandise before sending it. A specific attention must be brought to any cargo that isn’t in their original packaging.
  • For personal merchandise that can’t be individually wrapped, the client is responsible to dispose of their cargo on a pallet.
  • If the packaging is deemed unsecured by a CTMA Transport employee, transportation containers of different sizes will be offered to dispose of the non-approved merchandise. Additional fees will apply to the shipping cost ($12 per shipping).
  • If the non-approved merchandise can’t be transported in transportation bins, CTMA Transport has the right to refuse to ship the unsecured cargo.

Identification

  • Every parcel must be clearly identified with the following informations :
    • Name, address and phone number of the sender
    • Name, address and phone number of the receiver
    • Reference number (if applicable)
  • If there are several parcels in one shipment, every parcel must be numbered and identified with the information mentioned above.
  • A bill of lading must be sent and signed by the sender each shipment. All merchandise’s specificities (quantity, temperature needed, fragility of the parcel etc.) must be detailed on the bill of lading by the sender to assure the safety of the cargo handling by CTMA Transport.

Handling

  • All merchandise will be handled with a forklift and then disposed of on one or several pallets. The weight of the pallets isn’t taken into consideration only if your shipment can be paired with another shipment on the same pallet.
  • Throughout a pick up or/and a shipment, CTMA provides a handling service up to the doorway of a client’s residence. For commercial shipments without unloading dock, special cost for the use of specific equipment and/or handling fees will apply.

Handling fees

  • Fees of $55 per shipping will apply for the use of an hydraulic tailgate if :
    • The sender/ addressee doesn’t have an unloading dock to assure a safe cargo handling
    • The sender/addressee indicates the need to use an hydraulic tailgate
    • The weight/sizes of the cargo exceed the safety limits
  • Fees of $55 per hour will apply if :
    • Our drivers have to manually load/unload a client’s pallet, including any handiwork.
    • Two employees are required to load/unload a client’s cargo
    • The weight/sizes of the cargo exceed the safety limits
